Pollux System

True wireless, long lasting and robust sensors in a flexible network?

The Pollux system is our wireless, networked system of sensors, machine interfaces, edge gateways and software with which various industrial measurement and control tasks can be mastered. The core of this system is the specially developed Pollux radio, which enables our sensors to achieve several years' runtime with a standard battery, completely wirelessly. The Pollux radio has been tested in industrial environments and has proven to be absolutely robust, even under the most difficult conditions.

In combination with the Pollux sensors, various physical quantities such as vibration, temperature or pressure can be measured and transmitted. Typical applications are condition monitoring, monitoring of critical system variables, remote control tasks or documentation of the production process.

Even without a Pollux sensor, the Pollux radio can be used as an interface with machine interfaces to wirelessly transmit machine parameters or process information. Further processing of the data can be carried out via an IPC, tablet or laptop.

Pollux Sensors

For over 20 years, our wireless sensors have been used all over the world under the most difficult conditions in production plants and in mining. We understand the challenging requirements of different industries and have spent years optimising every aspect of our sensors for robustness, precision and operational reliability. Our sensors are therefore dust and water resistant (IP67+), oil and acid resistant and also protected against mechanical impact.

The sensor electronics, like the other Pollux components, are modular. The housings are produced in the 3D printer to match the customer's requirements and the sensor, which means that even small batch sizes can be offered cost-effectively.

Pollux radio system in detail

With existing radio standards it is hardly possible to achieve industrial battery runtimes with high sampling rates and at the same time meet high requirements for interference immunity and process reliability. For this reason, we have developed our own radio electronics and radio protocol for the Pollux sensors.

The Pollux radio system is currently delivered in its fifth generation. We are able to achieve over 126 million readings from a standard battery for most elementary sensors. This corresponds to one reading per second for 4 years, or one reading every 100 milliseconds for 6 months until the battery needs to be changed. Some of our sensor types manage 3 times the values mentioned here.

Intelligent measurement and transmission methods can reduce the response time or shutdown delay for critical conditions to approximately 3 milliseconds without significantly reducing battery life.

At the same time, several hundred Pollux sensors can work simultaneously side by side and with each other, without interfering with each other and without any setup or administration effort: the Pollux radio network namely organizes itself independently and fully automatically. The radio system uses the so-called ISM frequencies, which you can operate in almost all countries of the world without any further permission or approval. The frequency can be changed depending on the region.
